I heard something today that I never realized before.
Here’s the background:
Daniel 3 tells the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s golden statue because the only God they would worship was Jehovah. Nebuchadnezzar was so infuriated that he ordered that they be thrown into the fiery furnace which had been heated 7 times hotter than usual. Soon after, much to the surprise of Nebuchadnezzar, he saw a fourth man in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. He ordered them to be brought out and not even a hair on their heads were burnt and they didn’t even smell of smoke.
So what had I not realized before? Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego all lost something in the fire! What was it? It wasn’t their turbans or clothes. When they were thrown into the fire all three of them had been bound hand and foot but when Nebuchadnezzar saw them, they were unbound! They lost their bonds! What had been tying them was loosed in the fire!
Are you going through fire right now? Perhaps you do not understand why you are going through trials? Do not be afraid that you will lose out or be damaged by the fire. Just like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, all that you will lose is the chains and the ropes that have been tying you and keeping you from living a victorious life.
Keep your conviction like they did and you will triumph because God is in the fire with you just like he was in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
